Professor Stan Kachnowski, PhD MPA CSEP, is Chair of the Healthcare Innovation Technology Laboratory; Adjunct Faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India; and a Principal Investigator at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
During his career, Professor Kachnowski has taught over 5,000 students at Columbia University, IIT-Delhi, and QuinnipiacCollege. His teaching experience includes educating undergraduate, graduate level, and executive students across four continents.
Professor Kachnowski has published extensively in the fields of digital health development, management, and technology diffusion. He has authored over 200 peer reviewed papers and presentations for the world’s leading medical journals, societies, and organizations, including the American Journal of Medical Quality, Health Informatics Journal, Maternal and Child Health Journal, the Journal of Healthcare Information Management, and the Journal of Cardiac Failure. Professor Kachnowski has conducted extensive studies on the efficacy and diffusion of digital health, including electronic data capture, ePRO, wearables, and predictive algorithms, as well as electronic health records, electronic medical records, personal health records, pharmaceutical compliance,physician to patient messaging, remote patient monitoring, telemedicine,and the use of remote patient data capture in clinical trials. Professor Kachnowski also holds numerous patents on medical methods and devices.
Professor Kachnowski was selected as a College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Fellow in 1998. In 2003, he received a letter of commendation for teaching excellence from the Dean of the School of Public Health at Columbia University. In 2005, Professor Kachnowski was named a Fellow of England’s Royal Society of Medicine for his research demonstrating the outcomes effectiveness of using the Palm Pilot in managing haemophilia patients.In 2006, he served as editor of the Journal of International eGovernance.
Professor Kachnowski has received grant funding from a wide-ranging groups of sponsors, including over a dozen nations, the AARP, WHO, USAID, the Gates Foundation, theDell Foundation, and the majority of the top 20 global life science companies. Over the past 25 years, he has also served as interim CTO for a number of life science organizations, including Eyetech and Oncology.com. Professor Kachnowski currently serves on the Board of Directors for Oursmedicina, The Hudson Center for Health Equity, and Aptus Health, Inc., a direct-to-physician and health care professional marketing firm.
Professor Kachnowski holds Bachelors and Master’s Degrees from the University of Vermont, and a Doctorate from the University of Oxford.
